IFM Transaction Tax Study Makes the Top Ten
Social Science Research Network's (SSRN) recently cited an academic study funded by the Institute for Financial (IFM) in the Top Ten Download List for economic research studies. The study titled, "Would a Financial Transaction Tax Affect Financial Market Activity? Insights from Future Markets", analyzes the impact of a transaction tax on the quality of U.S. futures markets. The IFM-funded study concluded that a transaction tax may not raise considerable revenue for the government as suggested in other studies. Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is a global collaborative of over 223,000 authors and more than 1.3 million users and is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of research. IFM Announces New Leadership
The Institute for Financial Markets announced changes to its Board of Trustees following its spring meeting held in Boca Raton, Florida. Newly elected to the IFM's Board are Gary DeWaal, President, Gary DeWaal & Associates LLC, and John Lothian, President & CEO, John J. Lothian & Company, Inc. They each will serve a three-year term.
In addition, the following Trustees were re-elected to serve another term:
- Fernando Centelles, Chief Executive Officer, MEFF
- Daniel A. Driscoll, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, National Futures Association
- Scott Gordon, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Rosenthal Collins Group, LLC
- Thomas A. Russo, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, American International Group
Elections of officers also were held. Peter Borish was reelected to serve as Chairman of the IFM for a one-year term. Messrs. Russo and DeWaal were elected to serve as Co-Vice Chairman.
The IFM also recognized the passing of Mr. Alger "Duke" Chapman on February 18, 2013. Mr. Chapman volunteered his time and expertise as a Trustee from 1997 to 2012.

Futures Industry Insurance Study
The Institute for Financial Markets along with CME Group, the Futures Industry Association, and the National Futures Association today have jointly commissioned an independent study of the costs and benefits of adopting an insurance regime for the U.S. futures industry.
The study is being prepared by Compass Lexecon under the leadership of Dr. Christopher Culp, an expert in derivatives, risk management, insurance and clearing and professor. Dr. Culp is an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1998 and from which he received his Ph.D. in 1997. In addition, he is a Honorarprofessor/Professor for Insurance at the Universität Bern, Institut für Finanzmanagement (Bern, Switzerland); and a Visiting Professor – Université de Genève, Faculté des Sciences Economiques et Sociales, Section des Hautes Études Commerciales (Genève, Switzerland). Dr. Culp is the author of numerous articles and four books.
