The Dawn of Crypto Regulation

The growing interest in cryptocurrencies has attracted tremendous interest among ordinary citizens, institutional investors and has given fodder to intense debate in policy circles. In April 2018, the IFM and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University co-hosted a conference on the financial regulation of crypto-assets.

Scholars, regulators, and industry experts gathered on Capitol Hill to discuss the current state of play in cryptocurrencies in the securities and futures markets, and what unique risks these assets might pose. Experts further discussed what structural, procedural, or substantive regulatory changes might need to be addressed and what policymakers and regulators might do to help cryptocurrencies achieve their potential. The roundtable also included a fireside chat with CFTC Commissioner, Rostin Behnam.
